Get Well Soon Opening
Celebrate the park’s newest artwork recognizing people with history tied to the Spruill Building and the overall legacy of mental health services on the Dix campus.
Event Details
Join Dix Park Conservancy and NC Department of Health and Human Services for an opening reception for Get Well Soon.
A powerful new public artwork by Raleigh artist and mental health therapist Lamar Whidbee in collaboration with TACTILE WKSP, this installation seeks to address the complex realities of mental health and the societal impacts that accompany these experiences.
Get Well Soon features five suspended panels forming a large-scale 3-dimensional collage, prominently showcasing an image of Whidbee’s daughter holding a flower. Surrounding her are vibrant floral representations that honor the mental health journeys of individuals and communities connected to Whidbee. Measuring over 15 feet tall, this artwork adorns the historic Spruill Building and serves as a poignant reminder of resilience and hope.
The unveiling event will not only showcase this significant addition to Dix Park but also serve as a moment of reflection and education. We will honor the legacy of those associated with the Spruill Building and recognize the importance of mental health services within our community.
