Solar Power Comes to Dix Park

The Dix Park Chapel now glows with the power of the sun. The Greg Poole Jr. All Faiths Chapel has a new 67.5-kilowatt solar system, which helps the facility run on renewable energy and reduce operating costs for years to come.

This solar project is expected to offset about 45 percent of the chapel’s annual electricity use. The effort adds to a growing list of sustainability features at Dix Park, including the new Gipson Play Plaza and the Sunflower Field.

“Projects like this are about more than saving on energy bills — they’re about powering our community more sustainably. Sustainability projects at Dix Park also enable us to educate the millions of people who visit the park about solar power and sustainability,” said Megan Anderson, City of Raleigh Sustainability Officer.

The glow-up at the Dix Park Chapel is just one more way Raleigh is working toward a brighter, cleaner energy future. The project is a partnership between the City’s Office of Sustainability, Raleigh Parks, and Engineering Services.
