What's Out There Weekend Tours
Following TCLF's Leading with Landscape IV: Transforming North Carolina's Research Triangle conference on April 13, TCLF will host a weekend of free, expert-led tours of cultural landscapes in Durham, Raleigh, and Chapel Hill. North Carolina’s Research Triangle is largely defined by the major universities that give the area its name. Collectively encompassing thousands of acres, with contributed designs by the likes of Olmsted Brothers, McKim, Mead & White, Warren Manning, and others, these campuses shape the area’s unique landscape legacy. With William B. Umstead State Park between them, the cities of Raleigh and Durham are rich in diverse cultural landscapes, including public parks, industrial complexes, African-American heritage areas, Modernist sites, and an extensive network of trails and greenways.
Discover the region's rich legacy of cultural landscapes with tours led by experts in history and landscape design, including a number of the landscape architects presenting at the conference. Confirmed tour sites in Raleigh include Chavis Park, Dorothea Dix Park, Fayetteville Street, Meredith College, North Carolina Museum of Art, North Carolina State University, and Oakwood Cemetery. Sites in Durham include the American Tobacco Trail, Black Wall Street, and Duke University. Also included is the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
