Kirby Derby

Kirby Derby 2019 Image

Join us for the 18th annual day of Kirby Derby as we celebrate the world of movies during the 2019 Kirby Derby parade, mini pinewood car races and soapbox derby. Register to participate in any of the main events or just come to witness! Everyone is encouraged to get into character with costumes. Challenge the neighbors next door or your rival neighborhood to see who can win as the fast and furious.

3:00 pm  - Kids Mini Pinewood Car Races
5:00 pm  - Parade
6:00 pm  - Soapbox Car Races

  • FREE pinewood car kits for kids are still available at House of Swank.
  • Costumes are required to enter parade and soapbox car races.
  • Spectators costumes encouraged! Come watch the neighborhood rivalries and derby antics.
  • Food and beer trucks galore!
  • There will be kids inflatables with water features, so a change of dry clothes for the little ones is never a bad idea.

Kirby Derby was founded by the Pullen Park Terrace neighborhood in 2002. Pullen Park Terrace is better known by it's 2 streets, Kirby and Bilyeu.  In 2017,  Kirby Derby moved to it's new location on Harvey Hill at Dorothea Dix Park. This year's Kirby Derby is produced by the City of Raleigh and Dorothea Dix Park in partnership with the neighborhood.

Time: 2:00 - 8:00 pm

Location: Harvey Hill at Dix Park, Cranmer Drive, Raleigh, NC 28603
